Have information for you regarding #10. CHARLES MARCHANT RAMSDELL. He is a son of John A. RAMSDELL B. August 23, 1824, Rutland, Vt. C. M. RAMSDELL sometimes has his name spelled Charles Merchant, and sometimes, Charles Marchant. Merchant seems to be the prevalent spelling. His brothers, Eugene Emerson, Frank Robinson, and his sister Achsah Delora are all mentioned in the following copies of newspaper clippings:

First clipping: “December 10, 1894, Pecos Valley Independent N. M. Death of Dr. Ramsdell’s daughter.

It is with regret that we are compelled to give publicity to the following sad tidings to the many friends of Dr. C. M. Ramsdell, in this Valley, it is a loss of his bright and beloved little daughter. The letter which we received last Friday speaks for itself:

Fresnal. N. M. Dec. 10 1894. Dear Sir: My little girl, Mary V., aged 3 years and 10 mo., died of pneumonia, yesterday, will be buried at La Luz tomorrow. C. M. Ramsdell, M. D.”

Second clipping: “The Lampasas Leader, Friday May 20, 1891. Family Reunion.

A fairwell dinner was given to F. R. Ramsdell last Monday by Dr. and Mrs. C. M. Ramsdell. Dr. Frank had come home on a short furlough and his kinsfolk took advantage of the occasion to have one more family reunion before his departure for the seat of war. The members present were, Major John A. Ramsdell, the father of the Texas branch of the family. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Merchant Ramsdell and their daughter Miss Helen; Mr. And Mrs. Eugene e. and their six children, Miss Kittie and Masters John, Frnak, Eugene, Beecher, and Charlie; Dr. & Mrs. Frank R. and Misses Dell and Anna and little Dick; Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Fellbaum (Achsah Delora (Della) and Misses Berrie and Willa and Master Bert.

The only absent members were Mr. & Mrs. Fellbaum’s oldest son, Prof. C. C. Fellbaum who is engaged in his school at Pontotoc and who could not be apprised of the event in time to be present, and Dr. Frank’s oldest son, Mont, chief bugler of the 3rd. infantry who awaits his father’s return to Camp Mabry at Austin.

One of the family, E. E. of Burnet county is a veteran of the Civil war, and it is to be hoped that the two who have gone out may live to be veterans of the present war. By the way, Mont is bugler for the Mountain Remnant Brigade of United Veterans, and while he is sounding charges against the Spanish, that organization will have to get some one else to blow the orders for their peaceful maneuvers, while he is gone. May they all live till he returns.

Dr. Frank Ramsdell goes as hospital Steward of the Third Infantry under Col. R. P. Smythe. Dr. Frank Ramsdell is one of the chief surgeons of the Texas Militia, and will make a full hand when it comes to taking his place in the regular army.”

Third Clipping: “The La Grange Evening Observer, La Grange, Oregon, Friday February 9, 1923.

Dr. Ramsdell passes Away. Death came to him last evening at the home of his Niece, Mrs. J. E. Stearns in La Grange. Dr. Charles Marchant Ramsdell, of Cove, passed away in La Grange last evening at 9:15 o’clock at termination of a long illness that was contracted last summer. His demise came as a sad shock to his many friends in Union County who, today extend their heart-felt sympathy to his relatives. Dr. Ramsdell died at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. E. Stearns .

The deceased was aborn in Rutland Vermont, on August 16, 1846, and received his B. A. and M. A. degrees at Iowa State University in 1875, then graduated from the Kentucky Medical College two years later. He practiced medicine in Louisville, Ky. For a short time, then moving to Texas and New Mexico. In the early part of 1886 he was united in marriage to Mary Keyes, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and to this union three daughters were born, two of whom survice him. They are Mrs. E. T. Boswell of Cove and Mrs. J. E. Landers of La Grande. Dr. Ramsdell moved to Cove in the fall of 1898, where he has been since he moved to Oregon.

He was a member of the Episcopal church and was affiliated with the I.O.O.F. since early manhood. He is also survived by one brother, E. E. Ramsdell, of Marble Falls, Texas. Mrs. J. E. Stearns and Mrs. Blain Trevey of La Grande, and Mrs. J. F. Slanger of Blain Oregon, all nieces. The remains are at the Bohnen-Kamp chapel and the funeral services and interment will be held at Cove Oregon.”

The persons who wrote these notices also had a problem deciding whether to spell his middle name with and “e” or an “a”. And I see they also had a problem deciding whether the name of the town was La Grange, or La Grande. Hope this is of some help to you. Sincerely, Myrt
