1. Joseph¹ Ramsdell⁽¹⁾ was born About 1620. Joseph died 25 May 1674 in Plymouth Co., MA, at 53 years of age.

He married twice. He married Rachel Eaton 2 March 1645/1646 in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA.⁽²⁾ Rachel was born 1625 in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA. Rachel was the daughter of Francis Eaton. Mayflower Increasings (1:5-7) has narrowed Rachel Eaton's deathdate to "after 3 Jun 1656 but before Oct 1661".

He married Mary Savory 16 October 1661 in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA. Mary was born about 1630. On 4 May 1652, Joseph was ordered to move his wife and family out of the woods, and live closer to a town. He apparently ignored the order because it was repeated four years later; 3 June 1656.

(This note came to me from Steve Ramsdell and offers an intriguing ancestory for Joseph...)

Joseph Ramsdell was from Elland in the West Riding of Yorkshire, in England. The Ramsdells there go by the name "Ramsden." They were the lords of nearby Huddersfield from the time of Queen Elizabeth to this century (maybe still?)

Editors note: Joseph's last name was recorded as RAMSDEN in most of the period records, but has been listed here as RAMSDELL for continuity, as that is the name that almost all of his descendants have taken.
