439. Philemon W.7 Ramsdell (David6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Samuel3, Daniel2, Joseph1)(9) was born 1833. Philemon died 28 August 1883 in Acton, Middlesex, MA, at 50 years of age. Philemon died of consumption.

He married twice. He married Rebecca Rider Smith 15 May 1859 in Barnstable, Yarmouth, MA. He married Julia J. Styles 4 December 1875 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. Julia remarried after Philemons death in 1886 and moved to Francistown, NH. She filed for Philemon's Civil War pension in 1890 but was denied because she remarried. Many mysteries surround Philemon. He was only an infant when his father died and was just 13 when his mother died. At the time of his marriage in 1859, he was living in Abington, Mass. and listed his occupation as a cordwainer. (Shoemaker) The only reference to his father comes from his marriage record also, where he claims David, of Pembroke, as his father. (No record of his birth has yet been found in any area vital records.) Soon after his marriage, he enlisted with the 4th Regiment of Volunteers on 16 April 1861. He was mustered out of this unit on 22 July 1861 and later enlisted with 38th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers on 24 July 1862. The 38th was attached to the command of Gen. Nathaniel Banks and saw heavy action at Port Hudson on the Mississippi. It is not clear if Philemon returned home after the war. He was mustered out on 30 June 1865, but in the 1870 census, he was living alone in Abigton working as a laborer. His pension shows that he remarried to a widower in 1875.

Philemon W. Ramsdell and Rebecca Rider Smith had the following child:
