440. Zophar Deane7 Ramsdell (William6, Gersham5, Samuel4, Samuel3, Daniel2, Joseph1) was born in Leeds, Androscoggin, ME 21 November 1816. Zophar died 1886 in Ceredo Kenova, WV, at 69 years of age.

He married Almeda Alden 3 July 1842. Zophar D. married Almeda Alden of Turner (Maine), and settled in Abinhgton, Mass., in 1840. In 1848, he engaged in the manufacture of boots and shoes, and in 1858, moved to Cereda, VA. (Now West Virginia), where he established a manufactory which he operated until the breaking out of the Civil War, when he entered the Union service and with his company, of which he was Captain, joined the 5th Virginia Regiment, and was assigned to the commissionary department, where he completed a service of 4 years and 7 months. He was in many battles, among them Guyandot - the first fought in Virginia - Winchester, Franklin, Etc., and final battle of Petersburg. In civil life, he twice was elected to the Senate of West Virginia, and for seven years was a special agent of the government in the Post Office Department.
